NPU-M Special Session of the Education Committee – Intown Academy Status

APS-300x147In the November 4th issue of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it was reported that the Atlanta APS Public School Board voted unanimously to not renew the Intown Academy’s contract for the 2015/2016 school year. Hope Hill Elementary may not be a viable alternative due to current enrollment, physical space and educational resources.

Dean Leeper, Executive Director of the Kindezi Schools, made a presentation the NPU M Executive Committee on Monday November 10, 2014. As of November 10, 2014 the Kindezi School is the only applicant.
At this meeting it was decided that a special Education Committee meeting is needed to provide a recommendation to the NPU M General Body Membership at the November meeting.

The committee will make a recommendation to the General Membership Meeting on November 24, 2014. Without a replacement, the school may face closure.

Your input is needed. The discussion is scheduled for November 20, 6:30pm, Helene Mills Center515 John Wesley Dobbs Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30312 .

Children’s Restoration Network Food Drive, Nov 1-21

crn logoCRN’s 2014 Thanksgiving Food Drive  November 1st through November 21st

Poor nutrition is one of the biggest challenges a homeless child faces, often leading to physical and mental developmental delays and poor overall health. Help stock their shelves for the Fall season by donating a Grocery Item. There will be a drop box at ADios Cafe (near the front doors) or message Carrie Burns at or 678-640-7007 to arrange drop off.  The deadline for fall food donations is noon on Thursday, November 21st.  Instead of perishable items please consider a gift card.

Volunteers are also needed November 21-23 to help sort and deliver food to shelters and group homes across metro Atlanta. Food sorting will take place in the Roswell Town Center in Roswell, GA., 610 Holcomb Bridge Road, 10am-4:30pm. For more information, please email Cliff Kinsey at or call 770-649-7117.

Gateway Center provides men, women, and children the tools they need to end their homelessness. Direct  front-door services, collaboration in the community, and effective programs means that they reach over 5,000 unique persons suffering from homelessness each year. Last year 1,000 people were moved from the streets to permanent or transitional housing through Gateway’s services.

CHNA Awarded Neighborhood Fund Grant!

CommunityFoundationLogoThe Neighborhood Fund Advisory Committee has approved a 6-month grant in the total amount of $8,000 for Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association, $6,000 to promote Art Stroll events and $2,000 for community coaching. In addition, a community coach, Arlene Parker Goldson, has been assigned . Funds for community coaching will be administered by Neighborhood Fund staff to the community coach directly.

This is a great time to become a member of the CHNA PR/Communications and Artstroll committees or volunteer for the Committee Chair positions. Remember 2015 CHNA Officer Elections will be held at the November general meeting at No Mas! Cantina on Monday, November 17th at 7pm.
