Call for Artists: Broad & Poplar Crosswalk Design, Deadline July 27th

The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning, in collaboration with CAP/ADID and FlatironCity, have a vision for the revitalization of Downtown Atlanta and are working to bring it to fruition. One of the initial projects was the Broad Street Plaza, installed between Luckie and Poplar Streets. The Department of City Planning now seeks proposals from local and regional professional artists to design the crosswalk located at Broad and Poplar Streets SW. The selected artist will work with a vendor who will paint the design on the pavement.

Designs submitted for the Broad and Poplar Streets intersection should be impactful and reflect the spirit of downtown Atlanta. Deadline: July 27

Celebrate the Fourth of July in Downtown

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) is moving its annual family-friendly, free Fourth of July Celebration and fireworks show to International Plaza, the green space and surrounding areas between the Georgia World Congress Center, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Philips Arena. The change in venue is due to ongoing renovations of Centennial Olympic Park.

The headliner is chart-topping R&B quartet After 7, best known for the hits “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop,” performing with JFly and Friends.

Other artists joining the celebration include:

Just outside of Downtown, Ponce City Market and the Old Fourth Ward Business Association will host Fireworks in the Fourth at Historic Fourth Ward Park, also free, family-friendly, and open to the public.

Full Street Closure Notice: Courtland Street Bridge Construction Project

Beginning on May 7, 2018, a full street closure of Courtland St, SE, between Gilmer Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be in effect for the Courtland Street bridge replacement.

This closure will be in effect for 180 days.

The following detour route will be posted to re-direct vehicular traffic around the affected area:

Westbound Edgewood Avenue
Left onto Pryor Street
Left onto Mitchell Street
Right onto Courtland Street

Southbound Courtland Street
Straight (south) onto Courtland Street
Left onto Gilmer Street
Right onto Jesse Hill Junior Drive
Right onto Martin Luther King Junior Drive
Left onto Courtland Street
