Erica Pines called the meeting to order at 6:32PM.
The December 07 General Business Meeting minutes were adopted and accepted.
MEET & GREET
OFFICERS REPORTS
President –
Committees/Volunteers: If we can get strong committees we can do so much to help and improve the neighborhood. Please look at website and email the chairpersons.
First weekend of Feb, committee and executive board is having a retreat to discuss goals and develop plans.
APD said that valet parking at NOIR is illegal. The valet operator was issued a ticket. He did not show up and now has a warrant for arrest. Please contact APD if you see this person, not Erica.
Old 4th Ward: Vietnam Veterans of America and residents of Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward have come together to assist a decorated combat veteran and his family recover from a fire that destroyed their 100-year-old home in the Martin Luther King Historic District. Old 4th Ward is part of Kwanza Hall and we committed to Kwanza that we would help. CHNA is donating $250 to the recovery fund and encourage our neighbors to also donate.
No more paypal! We are going to Google checkout. Membership payments, chronicle advertising, donations and many more options will become available using Google Checkout.
MARTA Public Hearings – Please attend and check out flyer.
Peachtree Corridor Partnership: Heather stressed the importance for CHNA to attend as there is discussion surrounding the possibility of the trolley lines on Peters Street. Jim Schneider mentioned that Whitehall Street is should not be an option as due to accessibility.. This is the last meeting for the people voice to be heard.
Tilt: Great neighborhood business! They are bringing in other people from other neighborhoods. Great yoga, coffee and hot chocolate. Go check it out!
Star: Made the newspaper twice in the past month! Congrats!
Erica thanked the new 2008 board for stepping up. Thank you to Felicia, Joel and Laurel.
Erica gave a special thanks to the old board for the great work they have contributed over the years! Thank you to Stacia, Carrie and Scott!
COMMITTEE REPORTS
PR/Communications –
170 paid memberships last year
6 building memberships
20 businesses
The PR committee created packets for both business and new members to review. Packets are available online.
Pricing Structure Change - $30.00 individual membership and $100 for business membership. There are additional add-ons for marketing and advertising. Examples of advertisements are online. Businesses will receive many perks for joining. 10% discount per unit for Buildings who join.
Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau – Castleberry Hill is a member and will utilize ACVB to help with business development. Business members of CHNA will be provided with updates.
All businesses who fail to join CHNA or renew their memberships will not be listed on the website, neighborhood brochure, emails, etc. Please join and support and your neighborhood.
Individuals memberships are available. If your HOA joins, there will be a 10% discount for each resident in the building.
Business & Economic Development –
Park on Magnum Street - Developers want input on what we want for the park. Calvin met with Central Atlanta Progress for suggestions. Tables, benches, dog trash cans and a neighborhood bulletin board were a few of the many suggestions offered. Calvin posted sheets of paper on the wall for neighborhood to vote (10 votes per person). Location of the park is next to Bottleworks where all the construction is being stored from Castleberry Point.
Park on Fair and Northside Drive [Cleopas Johnson] - They are having a call for Artists to create a gateway. The submission deadline is January 25, 2008. They would really like to get the artist of Castlberry Hill to become more involved with this proect. This will be a major point of interest for the city. Jim Schneider asked who is going to be on the jury to select the winning project. He does not want another useless sculpture like the one on Freedom Parkway. Calvin is going to check on this. Neighborhood needs to be more involved in this project since it is close to the neighborhood. This project could only improve the neighborhood as well as bring in more vistors.
Friends of Cleopas Park – Erica has been meeting with them regularly. There is also a logo contest for Cleopas Park with a winning prize is $500. If you are interested in being a part of this association, please contact Erica.
255 Peters Street – Restraunt went to NPU meeting and was unanimously denied. They will present at the next NPU meeting on Monday, January 28, 2008. Everyone is encouraged to attend to create a bigger voice as well as to obtain voting privileges in the NPU system.
Neighborhood Relations –
Committee needs at least 1-2 people additional to their staff. They are the fun committee and plan all the events in the neighborhood. Contact either Stacia or Tamara for more info.
Kickball Team – Go Kickball League: looking for a business to sponsor and competition starts at the end of March. All interested players must register by February 21, 2008..
Tamara is interested in creating a green market for the neighborhood. She is soliciting volunteers for assistance.
There is a joint Happy Hour with Downtown Neighborhood Association and Marietta St Artery Neighborhood Association on January 25, 2008 at Stats on Marietta Street.
Neighborhood Happy Hours in Castleberry – We would like to encourage each business take a neighborhood night and associate them after CHNA meetings or conjunction with the Artstroll.
Public Safety –
Castleberry Point pledged to donate $500 for each contact written from October 20 – December 31, 2007. There were 3 contracts written and a check for $1500 will be donated to the public safety fund. We would like to encourage all developers to establish similar programs.
H.J. Russell is working on a grant for entire community to install cameras around the neighborhood. They are very close to finalizing this! All cameras will be hooked to Atlanta Police Department.
Mayor signed off on our grant, waiting for state to sign The Work Plan for the grant is listed on the website.
