Title: Castleberry Hill Update - Weekend Volunteer Opportunities - March 29th & 30th
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
Saturday, March 29th, 8am-4pm
Vine City & Washington Park - Fuller Center Assistance

The Fuller Center is continuing their work this Saturday and have 5 or more projects. The projects are mainly in the Vine City  and Washington Park area, where the tornado actually started just west of Vine City. It will consist of the removal of shingles from a home and re-roofing the same, drywall demolish and replace, maybe some painting, putting on a few small tarps, cutting up trees and removing debris from yards to the street for the city to pick up. If there are enough experienced folks a larger project may be started.

The Fuller Center is a young organization and growing to the need, since they have been serving the community non-stop since March 15th they are asking that you be self-sufficient since tools and even water/snacks/sunblock are not always guaranteed. Most of their limited resources are currently going to building materials. If everyone can bring a hammer, gloves, ladders, saws, chain saws, etc. that would be great as well!! A few trucks would be appreciated since there will be numerous trips to Home Depot for materials.

They are continually meeting with local pastors and community leaders to assess new requests that come in so please try and help them if you can. They are still waiting to assign crew leaders but Mark Galey and Jeff Mitchell will be available throughout the day for both sites.

Mark Galey’s cell - 404.867.3258, Jeff Mitchell’s cell - 678.361.6969
Work days are from 8AM - 4PM depending on progress & need.

Saturday, March 29th, 8-9pm
Earth Hour Atlanta

From the Mayor`s Office: There is a new and exciting event that is taking place in Atlanta, March 29th called "Earth Hour Atlanta." This global initiative is being presented by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and is partnered with the City of Atlanta and Mayor Franklin. The first "Earth Hour" event, held last year in Sydney, Australia was so successful, that WWF decided to turn it into a global event for 2008 and Atlanta will be participating. To symbolize this event, landmark buildings such as Bank of America Plaza, One Atlantic Center and 1180 Peachtree will be asked to turn out their façade lighting from 8-9pm on March 29th to darken the Atlanta skyline. No essential or security lighting will be turned off. Do one simple thing: TURN THE LIGHTS OFF FOR ONE HOUR. It`s all designed to show how doing one small thing can make a huge difference in the fight against climate change. Visit www.earthhourus.org and sign up today!

We are competing with 7 other neighborhoods for one of three cash prizes ($10,000, $5,000 and $2,500) to go toward neighborhood fitness initiatives so it`s going to be important that we show up in numbers! You need to be there by 6:30am on Sunday since the judges will be driving by to rank us and this spot is nearest the start line! Bring si gns that recognize the ADNA and Castleberry Hill and that encourage the runners. Bring your own or make it when you get there. Noisemakers are encouraged!
